JEROME Guisset is fully focused on achieving his best performance each week in a bid to earn himself a new contract with Warrington Wolves.

He is enjoying the role he is being asked to play for the team this year and has already touched down seven tries, which is the same total of his previous two seasons' try scoring efforts combined.

Guisset said: "I'm quite happy with my performances this year but there's obviously always room for improvement.

"I aim to play the same week in, week out and the fact that I've only got this year left on my contract highlights the desire I have to show what I can do.

"I am simply happy to be a part of the team but it seems that I've been playing a lot in the second row this year, which I'm comfortable with. The previous few years I've played a lot in the front row. It's not that much different but I feel a bit more confident playing out wide even though I know I'm not a ball player. I simply like the running game out wide.

"I think it would be good for me if I can stay there for a while and learn more in that position. I feel like I'm at that stage of my career where I've got to open up my eyes a bit more rather than just playing tough and rough. I need to open my eyes to spot the gaps to run at.

"I am enjoying my football. When I first came here I came as a second rower and I just hope I'm going to impress Paul Cullen so that I can hopefully get myself a contract for next year.

"I haven't talked to anyone about contracts and don't want to. I just want to concentrate on the footy and show Paul what I can do.

"If I can keep my place in the side and play to the best of my ability I'm sure there'll be dividends at the end of the day."

Meanwhile, the 25-year-old French international fully understands that he and his teammates need to pick up their performances on Friday night for the clash with Super League high flyers Leeds Rhinos at Headingley Stadium.

He said: "I think as a group of players we did not turn up to compete against Huddersfield at the weekend.

"It's one of those games we need to put behind us because the game on Friday is very important for us.

"We will have to step up another gear because we always seem to be playing teams who've just had a loss. When we played Huddersfield, they had had a big defeat against Saints in the Challenge Cup but they came out firing against us. And I think Leeds will be the same because they took a flogging against St Helens on Friday.

"We know we can step up a gear. We showed it against Bradford and in the Challenge Cup semi-final against Wigan too.

"All teams are close to one another in Super League now. Players have to be switched on 100 per cent throughout games. Any little mistake will cost you points.

"It was a poor performance against Huddersfield. We gave a lot of penalties away and I don't think the completion rate was good either. When you give the ball away that many times to a team like Huddersfield, who are obviously a good outfit because they started the game higher in the league table than us, then I think you are going to pay the price.

"That was not a Huddersfield team of three to four years ago when they were struggling. They're a big team now and they proved it to us on Sunday."
