A MEETING is taking place today, Thursday, to discuss the formation of an advisory body to assist organisers of walking days and carnivals.
Representatives from Warrington Borough Council and Cheshire Police were due to discuss who will be represented on the safety advisory group.
The body is to be formed following an announcement by the police that they cannot continue to provide enough cover for each event in Warrington as it could have an impact on the level of service provided across the rest of the town.
Superintendent Julia Clayton, Warrington's new divisional commander, said that the group would be a positive step forward in event planning.
She added: "It's about event organisers taking responsibility for marshalling and planning. They will be able to go to that group for advice and support.
"The police have tried to highlight risks and work with people. It's a good development."
