THE rain, forecast to ruin bank holiday fun, held off until work resumed on Tuesday and Culcheth residents took full advantage of the sun.

It was all the fun of the fair as crowds gathered on Culcheth's village green for the bank holiday community day.

More than 30 local charities benefited from the day's event and a swing band and Trumble the clown entertained crowds.

Councillor Sue Bland said: "It was a smashing day. All the charity stalls did a good trade and I think St Rocco's made quite a few hundred pounds.

"The weather was gorgeous, although there were a couple of threatening moments.

"It was a really good day."
