DISGRUNTLED residents in Great Sankey are angry about the construction of a new apartment building that directly overlooks their homes.

Last week the Warrington Guardian exclusively revealed that the Local Government Ombudsman was investigating Warrington Borough Council over its handling of a development to the rear of 364 Liverpool Road.

Phil Parry, aged 52, of Highfield Avenue, reported the matter to the watchdog when he learned that the Robert Foden Estates venture contravened planning guidelines.

In March, the borough council admitted that the two-storey building does not comply with approved plans and is encouraging a retrospective planning application.

But residents in Highfield Avenue are frustrated that the structure was given the green light in the first place.

Ron Moyle, who has lived with his wife in the same house for 32 years, is angry that ground floor and first floor kitchens and living rooms will overlook the rear of his home.

He said: "We are not chuffed about having people staring down at us. We are very upset about it. We did everything we could to block it."

Fellow Highfield Avenue resident, Geoff Barlow, said that traffic would be a problem and that there would not be enough room for people to park.

The borough council has sent off all related documents to the ombudsman and says it is taking action to secure the best outcome.

Robert Foden Estates was not available for comment when the Warrington Guardian went to press.
