MUSIC lovers enjoyed some classical entertainment at the Warrington Competition for Young Musicians 2004.
Youngsters from the Warrington area competed for first place and a prize fund of more than £1,000.
Eighteen-year-old Zara Jealous, of Thelwall New Lane, impressed the judges and the audience with her flute playing and went on to win the upper division, while Fiona Lewis, aged 11, came out on top in the lower division with her violin skills.
Heats took place throughout March at Walton Hall and Bold Methodist Church.
There were two winners from different categories, according to what grade they are studying in music.
Members of various musical organisations, including the Royal Northern College of Music, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, judged the competitors.
Karen Gately, who helped to organise the event, said: "Thanks to everyone for making the Warrington competition such a successful and unique event."
The competition was organised by the Warrington Arts Council initiative for development of music.
