Mr George Sixsmith, husband of Mrs Joyce Sixsmith, died of bronchopneumonia on March 24. He was 80.
Mr Sixsmith, of the Old Rectory Nursing Home, Grappenhall, formerly of Belvoir Road, Walton, lived in Warrington all his life. He was a public health inspector with Runcorn Rural District Council, then later became deputy chief environmental health officer with Warrington Borough Council, retiring in 1981, and taking up a post as clerk to Burtonwood Parish Council until September 1997.
During the Second World War he served in the Medical Corps, then in the SAS and with the Free French Forces, training French volunteers to be parachuted into occupied France. He served in the Far East, Singapore, Malaya, Borneo, Hong Kong and India.
He took an active part in public life, was a Mason, and after retirement was a member of Probus, Stockton Heath branch.
He leaves his wife, two sons, three grandsons and three granddaughters.
A service was held on March 30 at St Matthew's Church, Stretton, followed by cremation at Walton Lea. The Rev Elaine Chegwin-Hall officiated.
Arrangements were made by John Burrows & Sons.
