ST HELENS town-centre's Dixons store is to be axed within the next two months as part of the electrical goods chain's nationwide programme of closures. Dixons announced the St Helens branch is among 106 of the chain's stores that will close because they are "under performing and not meeting expectations". Dixons has 320 stores in the UK.
A spokesperson for the Dixons Group, which also controls electrical firms The Link, Currys and PC World, said staff from the Church Street store would be offered jobs with other group stores.
A Curry's superstore and PC World are based at the town's Ravenhead Retail Park, and The Link mobile phone shop is in the town-centre.
