I RESERVE a little corner in my heart for the Beta Band and their mystical, often frustratingly quirky ways.
Listening to Heroes to Zeroes is like finding a new candy bar. It sounds fantastic and like something I have rarely heard before and has fantastic song titles like Lion Thief, Space Beatle and Liquid Bird.
If I were forced to describe their sound I'd say imagine Zero Seven with a bit of attitude and some fuzzy guitars with Marvin the Paranoid Android on vocals.
But it's a carnival of sound and one that I'd recommend to all and sundry. No, there are no pop tunes here and yes, you might think they sound just plain weird, but I lost count of the times I felt overwhelmed by the strange beauty of the sounds coming from the stereo.
Theirs is a very weird world, but one that sounds fantastic and anyone interested in finding something brave, new and interesting should have a look-see at the Beta Band.
Elephant Shoe is probably their best introductory album, but this one comes highly recommended too.
