AT a sun drenched Sutton skipper Barr won the toss and elected to bat, this looked to be the right decision as openers Rimmer and Anders got off to a flying start.

After a caught behind appeal was turned down, bowler Blackburn seemed to lose all control and began to lose his temper.

As temperatures reached boiling point the Sutton batsman did well to keep up control of the incident, and the umpire did well to defuse the situation.

The two Sutton openers continued to dominate the Aigburth attack until at 82/0 Anders seemed to get a huge inside edge onto pad, but was given out LBW for a well made 38.

Rimmer continued to dominate and passed 50 with ease, but a sudden collapse was happening around him. From 82/0 Sutton were soon left reeling at 143/7 with Rimmer looking bewildered at the other end.

When Reynolds came into the crease he was under instruction to give as much of the strike to Rimmer as possible, he did this as well as creaming a few boundaries himself.

He enabled Rimmer to open his shoulders as runs again began to flow.

Rimmer soon blasted his way to a cultured 100 as he enabled Sutton to declare on 194/8 with Rimmer finishing on 102 n.o.

Frost and debutant Filson opening the bowling, Aigburth's openers were soon in trouble.

Filson, bowling with extreme pace had a wicket with his second ball, this brought Aigburth's pro to the crease, his leg stump was flying out of the ground after just two balls, Filson was on fire, not to be outdone Frost got in on the act in the next over.

Aigburth were soon in disarray at 11/4, Foster and Reynolds both claimed wickets as Aigburth's batting fell apart. Frost finished with 2/10 and man of the moment Filson finished with 4-18, leaving Aigburth all out for 61.

Sutton's second eleven lost to Wavertree Thirds by one wicket in a tight game, Sutton made 109 with only Ste Wearden making any noticeable contribution. Sutton bowled and fielded well but just fell short with Wavertree finishing on 110/9.

On Monday Phil Frost captained the Merseyside Colts at Birkenhead, Danny Appleton was also selected for the match against a strong Lancashire league team.

Merseyside lost heavily in the end, but both lads did Sutton proud.
