NATIONAL Volunteers Week is celebrated during the first week in June.

On behalf of WRVS, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all volunteers who give their time so generously in their local communities.

WRVS volunteer drivers and helpers, deliver meals to the elderly and isolated within the local community.

For some, the WRVS is the only visitor of the day; they look forward to a quick chat and a friendly face.

WRVS volunteers help in hospital projects throughout Lancashire, without caring and friendly volunteers the shops and coffee bars would not be able to operate.

WRVS Emergency Service volunteers are on hand in case of incident, they are trained and prepared to set up evacuation and refuge centres as and when required.

If any reader can spare a few hours once a week and would like to know how they can make a real difference in their community, in these or any of the other WRVS projects, they should contact 0845 601 4670.

Calls are charged locally, all expenses are paid.
