Shevington Sharks U9s 20

Halton Hornets U9s 40

SHEVINGTON took first but the Hornets replied with Kyle Smith bursting through to equalise.

The Sharks took the lead again but when Hornets got the ball Jordan Maddocks, Lloyd Hankin and Adam Murphy pushed hard down the field and Matty Fozard finished off the move picking up four points.

Again Shevington went ahead before good handling and passing by Daniel Pierce and Ben Laughton sent Fozard forward to reach across the line levelling the scores.

The home team went on the attack but strong tackling from Stuart Johnson, Kieran Topping and Luke Farrell kept them out.

When the Hornets retrieved the ball Thomas Walters and Hankin made driving runs enabling Smith to cut in at the corner for his second try of the match.

The Hornets' confidence was boosted taking the lead for the first time and Fozard crossed the pitch in the face of stiff defence to take the ball in at the opposite corner for another try.

A determined Shevington team managed to regroup and score another try just before the whistle went, making the half-time score 20-16 to Hornets.

The second half saw the Hornets set a blistering pace, Sam McGrory taking a long run towards the opposition before being tackled, Farrell scoring a fine try from the resultant play-the-ball.

The home team again replied, a cheeky side step allowing them to slip through.

Hornets displayed some fine teamwork to push forwards before Fozard dummied a pass and picked up his fourth try.

Sharks again came on the attack, but the tackling skills of Maddocks, Johnson and Murphy denied them their chance.

The Hornets had now got into their stride, but the never-say-die Sharks managed to hold Fozard and then Joe Kelly back.

Again Hornets turned the ball over and with Laughton and Pierce taking the ball forward, Topping kept his cool and sent the ball over the heads of Shevingtons' defence for Kelly to score.

Hornets kept up the pressure, a long pass found McGrory who added another four points.

In the dying seconds a determined Walters barged through the defence to make the final score 40-20 to Hornets.

Coach's award went to Ben Laughton, top tackler went to Kieran Topping and man of the match went to Stuart Johnson.
