COMPLAINTS about speed bumps have been increasing a meeting of Halton Primary Care Trust has heard.
Cllr Alan Massey brought the issue up after hearing 85 children had been hurt crossing roads in the Kingsway Ward in Widnes - the worst figure in Halton.
Cllr Massey said: "We have had an increase lately in complaints about the number of traffic calming measures and people are asking for some to be removed.
"Whilst speed bumps aren't attractive to the majority of drivers, we have still got 85 accidents there and it may well have been higher if these measures hadn't been introduced."
Dr Daniel Seddon, director of public health told him: "The number of people killed and seriously injured has dropped significantly over the last five years, by about 50 per cent.
"It's about reducing speed, not necessarily by speed bumps, but by whatever means are effective."
