Halton Jaguars v Manchester A's

THE winning streak continued last weekend as Halton Jaguars tore apart the Manchester defence on their home turf.

A brilliant hitting display saw 49 Halton at bats as opposed to only 35 by the A's in seven innings.

The Jags took the lead with two runs in the top of the first allowing only one in return but the A's came back in the second to go ahead by one.

Settling into the game, the Jags tied it in the top of the third and then kept the Manchester side scoreless in the next three innings.

Offensively, however, the Halton side dominated the middle innings scoring eight in the fourth, four in the fifth and five in the sixth.

This was a whole team offensive effort with singles to just about everyone and doubles by Colin Walton, Tom Warwick, Bob Cherneskie, Chris Hartley and Paul Thompson.

Starting pitcher for Halton, Rob Mills, helped himself out with a single and a solo home run.

Manchester rallied slightly in the bottom of the sixth, loading the bases with two singles and a walk. Two runs scored before relief pitcher, Chris Taggart ended the inning with two strike-outs.

The bottom of the seventh was a clinical dismissal of the A's with Taggart sending back three Manchester batters back to the bench in order to end the game on the 10 run slaughter rule after seven innings.

The final score was Manchester A's 5 Halton Jaguars 21

Next week Halton Jaguars travel to Glasgow to play the Stars in a single game.

The next home game is Sunday, July 11 against Sheffield Bladerunners.

Sheffield and Halton share top spot in the league with both teams unbeaten so far this year.
