HALTON Conservatives were rejoicing after more than trebling their seats from two to seven!

They swept the board taking every seat in Birchfield and Farnworth, plus gaining one in Daresbury.

Re-elected Cllr Dave Findon, said: "It's a very pleasant feeling to have seven councillors instead of being the lone Tory for the past seven years."

He said his party hopes to be able to act as a more effective watchdog.

"We will have the opportunity to scrutinise the performance of areas of the council in more detail. There are some very well qualified councillors in our group who look forward to delivering what the electorate really wants."

He graciously defended Labour's local achievements.

He said: "It's not a protest vote against Labour in Halton. Much of what the Labour group has done in this borough has been for the benefit of everyone."

The newly elected Conservative councillors include Dave Findon, Dave Lewis, Geoff Swift, John Bradshaw, Carl Cross, Phil Drakeley and Ian Whittaker.

Phil Balmer, chairman of Halton Conservative Association, said: "All seven councillors are delighted and honoured to be representing local people in the community and council chamber.

"We put a lot of effort into campaigning, working hard to show residents we are both committed and well organised.

"Now, the real work starts to ensure that the views of Birchfield, Daresbury and Farnworth residents are heard."
