THIS year's Davenham Carnival has been hailed as the most successful yet after a record number of people turned up to enjoy the many activities that were on offer.

The village streets were packed on Saturday with people enjoying the sunny weather and entertainment.

Karen Grzonkowski, event organiser, said: "Davenham Carnival is always successful but this year really was great.

"Everyone enjoyed themselves and we received record profits from the day. It was a bit cloudy in the morning but then the sun came out and we had a great time.

"This is all down to the hard work of everyone who helped organise the event."

The village centre was filled with a whole range of street entertainment including amazing circus skills, face painting, balloons and streamers.

The huge carnival procession wound its way from Hartford Road to Butcher's Stile field on Mount Pleasant Road. Floats from a number of organisations took part in the procession, which was led by Bostock Brass and United Norwest 2000 Band.

Retiring carnival queen Chelsea Savage crowned this year's queen, Rebecca Davies.

The main area on Butcher's Stile included various stalls, a huge inflatable slide, obstacle course, go-karts, children's rides and tents selling cream teas and traditional ales.

The evening entertainment also went down a treat with a performance from children's television presenter Norman Tinsel, barbeque, disco and live music from Beaver.

The action packed day of fun was rounded off in style with spectacular fire show from Hot Pants.
