Mrs Dorothy Newton, wife of the late Mr Clifford W Newton, died of respiratory failure on April 11. She was 85.

Mrs Newton, of Princess Road, Lymm, was born in Margate and had lived in the Warrington area for 80 years.

She was first employed in service as a maid to the clergy at Chester Cathedral, and drove taxis during the Second World War.

After her family grew up she ran the Rockfield Hotel, then later she managed Willowpool Nurseries with her husband until his death in 1989.

After her retirement, she continued to develop her interest in antiques and books into a new career, through which she made many friends.

Mrs Newton leaves a son, a daughter, six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was pre-deceased by a daughter.

A service was held on April 21 at Dunham Massey, prior to interment at Dunham Lawn. The Rev Graham Houghton officiated.
