CAMPAIGNERS are confident that 'there ain't gonna be a gas plant' in Byley and cash is rolling in to fund their appeal.

Residents against the Plant (RAP) came out fighting when Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott and Patricia Hewitt, Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, decided to overturn the result of the 2002 public inquiry on ScottishPower's Byley gas plant in May.

Two weeks ago they then appealed to the public to put their hands in their pockets and donate money to fund an appeal against the decision in the High Court.

John Halstead, RAP chairman, said: "We've been amazed and delighted at the way our funds are building.

"We had nearly £15,000 in the first few days and more is coming in every day.

"This has included large amounts from local organisations and more modest sums from people furious about the way our planning system has been arbitrarily taken over by John Prescott and Patricia Hewitt.

"It is truly humbling to see people give like this and it makes us even more determined to carry on the fight."

According to RAP, the group's lawyers are confident that there is good cause and good reason to go to the High Court.

Mr Halstead added: "ScottishPower please take note.

"The end game is approaching and we are going to win. There ain't gonna be a gas plant."

RAP says it still needs cash to sustain the fight. Donations can be sent to The Treasurer, Residents Against the Plant, C/O Pump Cottage, King's Lane, Cranage, Cheshire, CW10 GLX.
