MOORFIELD first XI secured another win last Saturday at home against Halsall West End in their efforts to get back into the top two of the division.

In the match sponsored by match sponsor KMC Plastering the home side won the toss and skipper John Eccleshall elected to field on a hard yet slow track.

The Halsall openers got in the mood and were scoring quick runs.

Moorfield opening bowler, Neil Maher came to the fore and snatched a quick four wicket haul for just 58 runs of 16 overs which was a good performance considering he wasn't feeling well.

Neil was ably supported by leg spinner Danny Naughton who took five for 28 off nine overs. Halsall were all out for 186 off 49 overs.

Iain Maher took a blinding one-handed catch on the boundary to close the innings.

In response both Moorfield openers Iain Maher and Craig Baxter took the attack to the Halsall bowlers from the off.

Iain struck a good 52 before flicking one to square leg.

Craig continued the attack until he was unlucky to be given leg before off a delivery that looked to be going over the stumps.

Craig scored 62 in a sound innings of well-timed and positioned shots.

Wayne Lamey chipped in with 14 and Danny Naughton knocked a creditable 36.

Neil Maher and John Eccleshall saw the home side reach 190 for four with nine overs to spare.

Moorfield 20 Halsall 9.

The second XI seemed to be doing well at tea in their away game at Hale CC as they bowled out Hale for 88.

In response, the wicket decided the result as Moorfield were bowled out for just 82.

The third XI fixture was cancelled.

This week sees the first XI travel to Whitefield CC in a top of the table clash while the second XI face Mossley Hill at home.

Nets continue on Thursday and selection will follow this.
