Bolton-le-Moors 6 Widnes Saints 48

THE super Saints destroyed the previously unbeaten Bolton who had only let in 50 points up to this game.

They scored immediately when Carl Leach fed Paul Borg who slipped it to Danny Yates who returned it for Borg to crash over.

Borg and Waitangi Halatuna were enormous and the hosts were unable to hold them.

Mike Lamb then put Halatuna in before Danny Badham pushed his way over with a run from the halfway line.

Athena Security man of the match Mark Birmingham and Anthony Hollins were running Bolton ragged and Kev Buck never gave international hooker Craig Kay a look-in.

Despite strong defence from Darren McKinnon, Lamb, Yates and Graham Buck the hosts eventually scored after 22 minutes.

Until this point they had not touched the ball but Dave Ogden barged over with Martin Fisher converting.

Straight from the kick off Chris Freeman fed Badham to barge over for his second.

Badham then returned the compliment and put in Freeman for a superb try.

When Hollins again stole the ball Neil Bourke scored a brilliant individual try, which he converted to make his first half tally 14 points out of the Saints 34.

Halatuna went over after Freeman stole the ball in a one on one.

Leach fed Tony Hannon who went close, then Jamie Rowlands was pulled down short.

Paul Kirwan, Borg, Andy Benson and Hannon were giving Bolton a hard time and it was no surprise when Benson scored after a set of quick hands.

A superb all-round performance from the Saints with the two Bucks, Benson, Freeman and Lamb all pushing for man of the match.

Saints' next match is in two weeks against Lancaster at Brentfields kick off 2.30pm.

This coming Saturday sees the touch rugby tournament.
