MOORFIELD CC first XI closed the gap on league leaders Whitefield CC on Saturday in the Merseyside and Southport Alliance in Roby.
The home side won the toss and put the Widnes outfit into bat.
Opener Iain Maher hit a quick fire 22 to get things going.
At the other end was the in-form Danny Naughton, who smashed an excellent 89.
Danny was supported in the middle order by Neil Maher 28 and skipper John Eccleshall 39 but the tail collapsed.
Moorfield finished on a credible 212 all out.
Pick of the Whitefield attack was Ste Price who finished with four for 35.
After tea Whitefield had a go at chasing the Widnes side's total.
Opener and overseas pro, Usman Tariq, hit a decent 73 to get Whitefield off to a good start, but wickets began to fall as they chased down the total.
Opening bowler for Moorfield, Ste Dean, was in the thick of things with the ball and at times was unplayable.
Ste finished with five for 72 off 20 overs.
He was supported by the other Moorfield bowlers Neil Maher, Danny Naughton and Rob Yearsley who all chipped in with wickets.
Whitefield finished on 195 for nine at the end of the drawn game with 12 points to Moorfield and Whitefield eight points.
Moorfield second XI continued to struggle in their home fixture against Mossley Hill CC.
Mossley Hill batted first and notched up 193 in their overs.
In response Moorfield could only manage 121 all out and the only Moorfield batsman to gain any credit was Gaz Jones with 35.
Moorfield CC third XI played on Sunday at home against Wistaston CC from Crewe.
Home skipper Ste Dean won the toss and decided to bat.
The home side amassed 216 for seven off 40 overs with openers Kev McCann (25) and Ste Dean (113) doing most of the damage.
In response Wistaston could only manage 100.
This was purely due to the bowling of Nick Ellis, two for 17, Rachel Tansey, three for 18 and Lorna Thomas with three for seven.
Lorna's efforts are continuing evidence of the clubs pro-active youth policy.
Lorna is one of Rachel's Cheshire co-players.
Her figures are even more remarkable as she is only 12 years of age.
She is a very talented cricketer with the bat and the ball, which bodes well for the future. Next week sees the first XI at home to Mawdesley CC whilst the second XI travels to Tranmere Vics CC.
Nets continue on Thursday and selection will follow.
