FINE dodgers were hit by an all day police operation last Thursday.

Police executed 16 arrest warrants in Runcorn, nabbing 12 people including two persistent non-payers.

Police said:

l One person was caught hiding in a loft.

l One person wouldn't answer the door but police saw him moving about

l Another person paid £1,000 worth of fines in full after officers knocked on their door.

Messages left with the family members of suspects meant another further 20 people turned up at court to face justice.

PC Neil Burdekin, of the Runcorn Community Action Team, said: "The joint operation proves that people can't get away with not paying their fines.

"The message is quite simple; people should pay their fines, or make arrangements to pay them. We will find you, there is nowhere to hide."

The operation was carried out jointly by officers from Runcorn Community Action Team and fine enforcement officers from Runcorn Magistrates Court.
