A DANGEROUS driver rammed a police car that chased him, Warrington Crown Court has heard.
Kevin Churchill overtook cars and forced other drivers to take evasive action.
He admitted dangerous driving, driving without insurance and driving while disqualified.
The chase started when he fled from PC Neil Burdekin in his Escort Cabriolet on the Southern Expressway in April because he feared being stopped by the patrol car.
He reached speeds of 50mph on Murdishaw Avenue and went the wrong way round a mini-roundabout, before doing a 180-degree turn and ramming PC Burdekin's car.
Churchill says he hit the car by accident as he tried to get away, but it extensively damaged the car and set off the air bags.
PC Burdekin then chased him on foot and caught him.
The court heard Churchill, aged 25 from Croxteth Hall Lane in Liverpool, had already quit his job as a forklift driver at Tibbett and Britten in preparation for a jail sentence.
His defence said he had 'sensible' and 'unwise' sides to his character, and that he claimed he is 'addicted to driving'.
Judge David Hale sentenced him to nine months in prison, and told Churchill his insurance costs would probably stop him from ever driving again.
After the hearing PC Burdekin said: "I'm glad the courts have chosen to punish him in this way because his actions put people's lives at risk, including mine."
