A FORMER borough councillor has been put on the sex offenders' list for five years after admitting having indecent images of children on his computer.

But Michael Fellows, of Lostock Green, will not have to make a court appearance after receiving a caution from Northwich police.

Liberal Democrat Fellows, 41, was arrested on April 5 and resigned from the borough council soon after his arrest.

At the time he said it was for family and personal reasons.

He was bailed to Northwich Police Station on September 1 and then bailed again until October 14.

On Thursday, a Cheshire Police spokesman said: "A 41-year-old man was arrested on April 5 in connection with indecent photos being found on his computer.

"This afternoon he was cautioned for that offence.

"That means he is going on the sex offenders' list for five years.

"For him to be cautioned, there has to be an admission of guilt."

Fellows was first elected to the borough council in 1999 and has previously been chairman of Lostock Parish Council.

As Lostock parish council chairman, Michael Fellows led a victorious campaign to prevent the building of a massive warehouse on the Long Wood site in 1999.

He was also a vociferous campaigner against building on the Lostock Triangle, a battle he lost.

And more recently, he joined residents in the campaign for speed restrictions outside primary schools in Wincham and Lostock.

Mr Fellows declined to comment on the caution.
