Lymm RUFC 1st XV 39
Widnes RUFC 1st XV 5
A DEPRESSING performance by the Wids against a team who had won only one league game so far this season.
The early season form has now deserted the Heath Road outfit and this visit to Crouchley Lane highlighted the weakness in the forwards and their inability to compete against and contain the opposition eight.
This deprives the talented back division of any quality ball.
The one highlight of the Widnes performance came when Ashley Watmore carved up the home defence with a break from the halfway line.
Watmore was tackled short of the line but the ball was kept alive and several attempts were made to cross the Lymm line.
Eventually from a five metre scrum Michael Lamb darted over to make the score 7-5.
Great defence by Widnes frustrated Lymm until Mark Sutton barged his way over.
Nick Shaw converted for the first of his 19 points, which included a try in each, half, a penalty and three conversions.
Four unanswered second half tries by Lymm completed a miserable day for the Wids.
Widnes welcomed back Nick Preston at prop and gave new recruit Peter Van Loo his first game on the wing.
This week Penrith visit Heath Road, 2.30pm kick-off.
