FOLLOWING on from Disgusted Tax Payer's letter, presumably the Council Tax also funds other pensions, like the fire service. Perhaps someone can do a simple calculation to show what percentage of the Council Tax fund goes to paying pensions as a whole.
Instead of the annual bleat from the council that services would have to be cut unless Council Tax is raised above inflation, perhaps consideration should be given to reduce the amount paid to these lucrative pension funds and not to raise the amount following annual wage settlements.
