WARRINGTON sports fans have offered their views on the UEFA European Women's Football Championship coming to town next June

WHAT a great idea it is to bring the UEFA European Women's Football Championship to Warrington next year. It is not very often that a major championship of any sport takes place on your doorstep but when it does it is the perfect opportunity to see the highest level of competition live. I will definitely go to the Halliwell Jones Stadium to take in a game or two next June.

Phil Gratton, Oakwood

I AM pleased to see that The Halliwell Jones Stadium is to stage an event that is alternative to Rugby League. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Rugby League nor the Warrington Wolves having their new home. It was needed and important. But the new stadium was always pushed as the 'people's stadium' in the stages of campaigning for its development and to me that means more than just Rugby League. So it is good to see that an event as prestigious as Euro 2005 will have games at the town's hot new venue and it is a big 'well done' to those involved in securing the event for the town.

Debbie Sanderson, Orford

THE women's version of the European Championships does not really strike a chord with me at this stage but, no doubt, by the time that the event arrives in town that there will have been enough hype for me to become interested. It is not that I am sexist at all but possibly because I have little knowledge of the women's game. I'm aware of all of the men's England footballers, I know how good they are, I know which teams they play for. In contrast, I can't even name any of the England women's players nor even their manager.

Chris Patterson, Walton

PUT me down for tickets to see the UEFA European Women's Championship games that will take place in Warrington. I hope Germany are in the group games that take place at The Halliwell Jones Stadium as they are the world champions and it would be great to see them play.

Alison Smith, Stockton Heath

FOOTBALL will always be my second sport to Rugby League but I will go to The Halliwell Jones Stadium to watch the women's European Championship games in order to be able to say 'I was there'. After all, the chances of any women's football of this level taking place in Warrington again during my lifetime are probably quite remote.

R Ford, Penketh

I JUST hope, for the sake of the organisers and the women taking part, that the Warrington public support the UEFA European Women's Championship games that take place at The Halliwell Jones Stadium next June. It would be great to think that the stadium could be full for all of the matches but I think I am right in saying that it has not been at capacity since the opening match of Warrington Wolves' 2004 season. And for Rugby League's European Nations Cup final there in November, between England and Ireland, there were less than 4,000 that turned up.

B Johnson, Burtonwood

A WOMEN'S football match at international level is more exciting than a men's match at international level, in my view, and therefore I will take the opportunity of watching UEFA European Women's Championship matches at The Halliwell Jones Stadium next June. I just hope the ticket prices are kept to a reasonable level not to put other people off going along and enjoying the experience. I have been to women's FA Cup finals before and the atmosphere is always great.

Helen Houldsworth, Lymm

I HOPE some of England's matches in the European Championship will be played at Wolves' stadium. I probably won't go to watch two other countries competing but I would watch England.
