SEVEN members of Warrington Athletics Club will be competing in the English Schools Championships next weekend.

They will be representing Cheshire at The Alexander Stadium, Birmingham, in seven different events.

Junior girls Hayley Darbyshire and Hannah Tart will be challenging in the 100m and 800m respectively, while intermediate Louise Woodward will be taking on the 80m hurdles.

Kieran Richardson will be giving his best shot in the senior boys hammer, while at junior level Chris Kirk will tackle the 400m, Stephen Broadhurst will contest the 800m, and Matt Jackson will compete in the 1,500m.

Warrington's Declan Adepetun is a Cheshire reserve for the sprints and 4x100m relay.

Hannah won the A 800m in 2mins 21.5secs when competing in the Mason Trophy Inter County Schools match in Birmingham last week. Warrington's Danny Cliffe, Scott McEwan and Graeme Langford won B events.

Warrington's rising stars sealed a second match victory of the season in the National Young Athletes League at Victoria Park on Sunday.

There was a glut of personal best performances produced over all the age groups, with the outstanding ones being from 6ft 2ins 12-year-old Femi Adepetun. At under 13s level he strolled to victory in the B 200m, produced a throw of 9.29m to easily win the shot putt, and stormed the last leg of the 4x100m relay to turn a deficit of 10m into a victory by 20m. His shot putt performance gained him field athlete of the match.

Danny Cliffe produced an outstanding performance when he won the under 15s 3,000m in 9mins 32.8secs - the fourth fastest time in the country for his age group.

Four personal best performances were achieved by Warrington athletes in the midweek open meeting at Longford Park Stadium, Trafford.

They were produced in the under 15s girls 800m by Emma Jane Jones, who clocked 2mins 27secs; in the under 17s 800m by Adam Green, who recorded 1min 59.1secs; in the under 17s 1,500m by Lawrence Walker, who achieved 4mins 15.5secs; and in the under 20s 1,500m by Tom Sherrington, who shone in 4mins 11.4secs.

Warrington Athletics Club were unable to field a strong team in the third match of the North of England Athletics League but those who did compete performed well.

In the women's track events, Vicky Nicholson was third in the 100m in 13.4secs, Heather Timmins was second in the A 800m in 2mins 24.7secs, Kelly Money was second in the B 800m in 2mins 29.5secs, Sophie Stevens was third in the 1,500m in 5mins 28.5secs and Kirsty Young was third in the 3,000m in 12mins 18.5secs.

The men's results featured Brandon Foster eighth in the A 100m in 12.6secs, while John Gartland was fourth in the B 100m in 12secs, Lawrence Walker was fourth in the 800m in 2mins 8.3secs and Jason McGonigle was second in the 3,000m in 9mins 20.0secs.

In the field events, Kieran Richardson won the hammer with 41.43m, Matt Kindon won the high jump with 1.85m, Foster was sixth in the long jump with 5.62m and second in the B javelin with 33.78m, and John Gartland was fourth in the A javelin with 34.31m.
