Well, after a big pre-season, its nearly time to get the wooly hats and scarfs out and stand on the terraces and shout for the 'Wire'.

It was good to get the pre-season friendly with Leigh under are belts, it wasn't the best game or test for us with all due respect to Leigh because anybody that knows about rugby league would of looked at the team sheets and predicted we should of won by a pretty big score line.

I do think Leigh will go well this year under Ian Millward and they also have a very big pack that can dominate you, I myself was suffering from quite a big hit and got a mild concussion in the first half.

We can take some confidence from the game but we can't get over excited because we still have a lot to work on.

Our bigger test will come on Wednesday when we take on Wigan Warriors which is ideally my Testimonial game.

Not only is it my home town team but its a great local derby for us to get us ready for the start of Super League.

This game is important because all the squad is now playing for a spot in the 17 for when we play Harlequins in 2 weeks time.

I definitely want to be in the starting 13 and I will be working hard to get it just like every other squad will be.

Them thoughts will be going through the Wigan Warriors training camp also and that means the Testimonial game will be a very fierce battle.

Its obviously going to be a very special occasion for me because having spent 10 years at one club is a massive achievement, especially in the modern era of Super League with the salary cap.

I am Wire through and through and I have loved every minute of my time here and I hope you the supporters have loved having me here for such a long time.

I hope you can all show your support on Wednesday night, not just because its my testimonial game but because myself and the lads want to start the season with a bang and we are looking at this game as the start of the season for us and we want to kick on each week and improve.

We hope we can provide you all with some entertaining rugby this year and more importantly bring home another trophy, thats the main goal!

Hope to see you all Wednesday night at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, lets make it a fortress!

Speak soon, Woody
