THE top players in the world of bowls will descend on Woolston Royal British Legion for a new competition in memory of Mike Roach.

The likes of Graeme Wilson, Gary Ellis, Lee Lawton, Chris MacDonald, Mike Leach, Glynn Cookson, Robert Hitchen, Martin Gilpin and Ian Nicholson will take on Warrington’s best in the Mike Roach Memorial Bowls Classic during August and September.

Mike was a local charity fund-raiser who lost his battle with cancer earlier this year and all proceeds raised from entry fees, raffles and programme sales will go to St Rocco’s Hospice.

Leading Warrington’s hopes for the £500 first prize will be Tommy Johnstone, Carl Armitage, John Taylor and Jason Lockett.

Bowls supporters will be able to see the game’s number one and two players, Wilson and Ellis, in action on August 23.

Four Saturday and Sunday sessions will lead to the final’s day on September 13.
