TACKLING the treacherous crossing over the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and North Yorkshire moors will be worth the blisters for two St Rocco’s Hospice staff.

Appeals manager Claire Manock and day unit sister Caroline Kay will be following the Wainwright Walk from St Bees Head in Cumbria to Robin Hood’s Bay in North Yorkshire.

Claire said: “We have done a lot of training together over the years. We have done a couple of half marathons and a few 10k runs. Our knees are creaking now and need something that isn’t as bad for our knees.”

Caroline added: “We wanted to do something that’s a challenge but a bit different. We have been planning it for about a year and we wanted to do it in the shortest possible time as we could. ”

The pair are hoping to raise £5,000 that will help to pay for therapy equipment used in the recently opened day unit.

Walking up to 24 miles a day, Claire and Caroline hope to complete the 191 and a half mile route in just 10 days and the hard work will all start little more than 24 hours after working at and in Caroline’s case taking part in the St Rocco’s Starlight Walk, which takes place on June 19.

They will be setting off on their walk across the country on June 21 and hope to finish on July 1.
