WARRINGTON’S Jean Wanbon is proving to be the perfect bowls partner.

Wanbon and Karen Johnston won the Cheshire Pairs event at Grange Sports Club on Saturday.

They defeated St Helens duo Maureen Lyons and Sylvia Smith 21-4 in the final.

The pair knocked out T Cunningham and C Lockett 21-9 in the semi finals, B Beddall and B Bishop 21-15 in the quarter finals as well as W Wright and P Fox 21-4 in the last 16.

Wanbon also successfully teamed up with Damian Morrison to beat two locals 21-15 in the Southport Botanic Gardens competition. They lost in the final of the Waterloo Mixed Pairs in Blackpool 21-16.

Wanbon started the season on fire with Irene Reardon.

They followed up a women’s pairs success at Pensby, Wirral, with a win in the Warrington Afternoon Bowls League opening pairs competition.

Meanwhile, Rebecca Higgin is the current leader of Division Two of the MD International Junior Bowls League after her 15-14 victory over James Maher.

Last year’s champions Mike Yule and Mike Roberts also regained winning ways on Saturday, with Mike Yule producing the fight back of the day to score a 15-14 win against Jack Harper despite being 14-6 down.

Harper maintained his cool, however, to gain a 15-11 victory in his second game to stay in touch with the leaders.

Kyle Chapman and Liam Sullivan lead the way in Division One.

Chapman secured two good victories over previous champions Daniel Roberts and Daniel Bennett, while Sullivan also won both of his games including a 15-13 victory over Adam Lea.
