LETTING agency Black Bear Lettings had its busiest ever month in January; a time widely considered to be one of the toughest in the market.
Managing director Thomas Britton said the recession had actually benefited his business to the point where he is opening additional offices.
Not only are more people looking to rent rather than buy, but the quality of the stock available has risen considerably, he said, as people are renting out houses they are unable to sell in favour of downsizing or renting, or even moving abroad.
“About 40 to 50 per cent of new properties we rent out, the landlord has previously been trying to sell,” said Thomas.
He started Black Bear Lettings just before the recession.
“I definitely chose the right business to start up at the right time,” he said.
