MAINTENANCE has transformed a Warrington beauty spot and fishery into a brighter and more welcoming space.
Ackers Pit, in Stockton Heath, has been the focus of a freshening up project over the past fortnight to clear overgrown vegetation, trim hedges and remove hundreds of self-seeded trees and bushes.
The work, carried out by The Ace of Spades Tree Surgeon and Stump Removal Company, aimed to improve safety and promote more diversity and a healthier ecosystem.
Warrington Anglers' Association, who own the water's fishing rights, has updated members on the works activity which has been completed this week.
A spokesman said: "It is always sad when trees need to be removed, but preventative measures for safety reasons are always the club's focus.
"The talented team from Ace of Spades made short work of what looked like a very dodgy tree-removal operation in awful weather."
The initial primary focus was the removal of a hybrid poplar on the corner where Ackers Lane meets Ackers Road, a tree which was leaning badly over the path and potentially very dangerous.

Crews also cleared vegetation that was restricting sunlight and airflow, making the pathways appear dark and overgrown.
The spokesman said: "Afterwards the aim was to open up the somewhat gloomy pathways and bring well-needed sunlight/wind, along with an overall safer feeling to the banks, and we couldn't be happier with the results."

Clearing the overgrown growth is also expected to benefit the pit's biodiversity.
The spokesman added: "By choking the banksides and inhibiting the growth of the wild flowers and planted trees, these bushes/trees were stifling the ecology and diversity of the Pit, so works were agreed and carried out."
Wildflower seeds will be scattered in a bid to promote more diversity and a healthier ecosystem, encouraging wildlife to take hold again.
"We're sure you'll notice a massive difference to the Pit on your next visit," said the spokesman.
