MORE than 40 Warrington mums gathered to launch the school holidays with a summer picnic.

The event, organised by Walking Mums, took place at Grappenhall Heyes Walled Garden and brought together families.

Mums and children from newborns to eight-year-olds enjoyed a full afternoon of play, connection, and community, with activities including interactive sessions led by Robot Reg Warrington and Moo Music Warrington.

Rachael, founder of Walking Mums, said: "This was one of my favourite Walking Mums events of the year.

"I attended not only as the founder of Walking Mums, but also as a mum to my two daughters, aged two and seven, who had an absolute blast.

"I love that Walking Mums helps my children build friendships just as much as it helps me, while giving us the opportunity to discover new places and experiences together."

The summer picnic highlighted the positive impact of bringing mums together in welcoming outdoor spaces, helping families form new friendships, discover local activities, and support local businesses.

This was the second consecutive fully booked Summer Picnic hosted by Walking Mums at Grappenhall Heyes Walled Garden, with a final Summer Picnic taking place on August 24.

Walking Mums has grown rapidly since its founding less than two years ago, starting with a single walk and now counting more than 3,000 members across Cheshire and Greater Manchester.

The group now runs more than 20 events each month, from walks to special gatherings, all focused on movement, wellbeing, and community for mums during maternity leave and beyond.

Walking Mums’ mission is simple: to help mums do more, see more, and become more confident and connected through maternity leave and beyond.

Earlier in the summer, the group also held its much-loved Flower Fairy Picnic at Bellefields Brew in Appleton.

The event included a one-mile walk through the countryside, fairy dress-up, and a flower-themed reading from local children’s author Brian Agger and illustrator Ruth Sanderson.
