A DEDICATED runner is taking on a 100-mile challenge to support a children's charity and raise awareness of adoption.
Andy Edwards, from Warrington, has committed to running 100 miles across 10 official events throughout the year to help raise funds for Adoption Matters.
The charity finds families for children waiting to be adopted and provides long-term support to those families.
Mr Edwards said: "I’m running in aid of Adoption Matters because, as adopters ourselves, my wife and I know first-hand the incredible support they provide throughout the adoption journey.
"The charity helps so many families like ours and any funds raised will make a real difference to help them continue to support so many more."
His challenge began in March with the Chester 10k, and he has already completed six races, covering more than 53 miles.
The next events in his calendar include the Warrington Half Marathon, Manchester Half Marathon and Hadrian’s Wall Half Marathon.
These races will see him surpass the 100-mile target by October.
Each step brings him closer to supporting the charity’s mission of helping children find permanent, loving homes.
Annie O’Neill, fundraising and relationship manager at Adoption Matters, said: "Everyone at Adoption Matters is so inspired by supporters who go the extra mile — or in Andy’s case, a hundred! — to help our charity.
"Every mile he runs helps raise awareness and vital funds for our work and we are so hugely grateful.
"All money raised will help us in supporting many more families."
A variety of distances and terrains make up Mr Edwards’ challenge, including the Tatton Trail 10k and the Manchester Trail Escape 25k.
Altogether, he will cover 165km (102.7 miles) before the challenge ends.
Adoption Matters is one of the UK’s largest voluntary adoption agencies.
The charity recruits, trains, and supports families throughout the adoption process and beyond.
More than 3,000 children in the UK are currently waiting to be adopted, with some waiting far longer than others.
