POLICE in Warrington are warning of a specific type of crime that is increasing of late.
Cheshire Police says that it has received a spate of reports of thefts of plant machinery in Warrington.
The force’s rural crime team is investigating and has recovered one item of machinery, thanks to the assistance of officers from Lancashire Police.
Businesses in Warrington are being urged to ensure that their equipment is secure so that they do not become the victim of thieves.
PC John Teasdale, of the rural crime team, said: “In recent weeks we have seen an increase in thefts of plant machinery from locations across north Cheshire, particularly in Warrington.
“Our investigation into these thefts has developed at pace, and we have been working with the National Construction and Agricultural Theft Team and Lancashire Police to develop lines of enquiry into this series of thefts.
“This morning we hastily met with our colleagues from Lancashire Police’s rural crime team to successfully track a stolen Manitou telehandler that had been stolen earlier this week from Cheshire.”
The machine has now been recovered and will return to its rightful owner.
“This recovery is another example of our continued commitment to tackling rural crime and protecting the farming and agricultural communities across Cheshire,” PC Teasdale added.
“This is all possible due to a shared commitment between forces and national teams to work together to tackle organised crime.
“The theft of agricultural and plant machinery has a significant impact on businesses, and we remain proactive in identifying offenders, recovering stolen property, and bringing those responsible to justice.
“We would like to thank everyone who continues to support our work by reporting suspicious activity and sharing information. Your vigilance makes a real difference.
“We are now following up on further lines of enquiry into these thefts, and those responsible need to look over their shoulder as they will be receiving a knock on the door to face the consequences of their actions.”
If you see anything suspicious in your area, report it to Cheshire Police by calling 101 or visiting the force’s website. In an emergency, or if a crime is in progress, always call 999.
