ONE Warrington speed camera caught thousands more speeding drivers than any other in Warrington this past year.

The number of activations of each speed camera in Warrington in 2025 can now be revealed.

A successful Freedom of Information Act request submitted to Cheshire Police has released the figures for each camera across the borough over a 12-month period.

Some proved far more active than others – with one in the town catching no speeding motorists at all.

Despite this, 2025 suggests that more motorists chose to break the speed limit in Warrington than in 2024.

Fixed-location speed cameras in the borough caught 5,344 speeders in 2025 – almost double the 3,137 motorists caught speeding in 2024.

The most active camera was on the A574 Warrington Road in Glazebury, which was activated 3,216 times.

This is in comparison to the zero speeding motorists that were caught by the camera between January 1, 2024, and December 31, 2024.

The next most prolific in Warrington in 2025 was on the A49 Wilderspool Causeway, which again saw a huge rise compared to the 316 speeders recorded there in 2024.

The speed camera on the A49 Winwick Road, at the junction with Owen Street, caught 695 speeders, but this was down considerably from the 2,561 snapped in 2024.

Here are the number of activations of each fixed speed camera in Warrington between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2025:

Cheshire Police has issued a statement along with the figures explaining the disparity in numbers of speeders caught over the past 24 months.

A spokesman said: “Cheshire Police, in partnership with each of the local authorities under the Cheshire Road Safety Group, have at any one time 27 to 30 operational fixed-spot speed camera sites.

“Six of these sites are in the Warrington area.

“It is financially prohibitive and logistically impossible to have a camera in all sites; therefore, the cameras are moved around the force area so that the optimum use can be achieved.

“The movement and positioning of the cameras, while trying to give an even coverage across the force, can be affected by a number of factors.

“These include roadworks, a loss of power to a site, damage, and for the annual maintenance required for each camera unit.

“For these reasons, data between sites and dates cannot be directly compared.

“Cheshire Police support the Fatal Five campaign, which targets the main causes of road trauma and death, of which excess speed is one.

“Cheshire Police takes excessive and inappropriate speed seriously, and challenges driver behaviour in appropriate ways.

“This includes by visible deterrent, education, and enforcement within the current policies set by the Government.”
