A DOG walker spotted a seal at a park in Warrington in what was a ‘very special moment’.

Yesterday evening, Tuesday, Abi Fielding was walking her dog in Sankey Valley Park when she spotted a seal swimming under a bridge in the brook.

“I’ve only just moved to Warrington and am looking for local places to walk my dog,” Abi said.

“It was only my third time in Sankey Valley, so I was just walking aimlessly.

“On a whim, I decided to cross the bridge when I saw its face looking up at me.

“I had to do a double take and waited on the other side as it swam under the bridge.

“I was the only person around, it felt very special.”

Seals have been spotted in the town before, however usually in the Mersey near to  Bridge Foot and the Howley area.

Responding to the news that a seal was spotted in the canal at Sankey Valley Park, an RSPCA spokesperson said: "It’s not unusual to see seals in rivers or water bodies further inland.

“There’s no need to call us unless you are concerned the seal is sick or injured

“Our advice is to not disturb them and watch from a distance."
