Services suspended at Newton-le-Willows after person struck by train

All services were suspended between Newton-le-Willows and Manchester after a person was struck by a train.

The emergency services were in attendance close to Patricroft Station in Eccles, Salford, at around 4pm on Sunday.

All services were suspended between Newton-le-Willows and Manchester in both directions including the Northern service from Liverpool Lime Street to Manchester Airport.

The Northern service from Liverpool Lime Street to Manchester Oxford Road via Warrington Central was unaffected.

There is due to be disruption throughout the evening.

A National Rail spokesperson said: “Lines have reopened between Newton-le-Willows and Manchester following the earlier incident where a person was hit by a train. Trains may still be delayed by up to 30 minutes or cancelled whilst service recovers."

The emergency services were asked for a comment.
