THE next mayor of Warrington is set to be confirmed.
At the annual council meeting on Monday, councillors will ‘receive a recommendation’ from an ‘informal meeting’ of the mayoral selection committee to elect the mayor and deputy mayor for the municipal year 2024-2025.
It is being recommended that the council invite Cllr Steve Wright, Labour, to continue his term of office of Mayor up to June 30 – which means he will be the mayor on Warrington Walking Day.
Cllr Wright was also the mayor in 2012-13.
Following this, Cllr Wendy Johnson, Liberal Democrat, will be invited to accept the office of mayor, from July 1 until the end of the 2024-25 municipal year.
Cllr Johnson was also the mayor in 2019-20.
Furthermore, it is recommended that the council invite Cllr Mo Hussain, Labour, to accept the office of deputy mayor for the 2024-2025 municipal year.
