SINCE the start of May, a number of restaurants, cafés or canteens were given new food hygiene ratings in Warrington – and we have a list of them here for you to see.

Inspections are routinely carried out to ensure that establishments are up to scratch with food hygiene regulations.

Inspections are carried out based on the following criteria:

  • Hygienic food handling - Hygienic handling of food including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage.

  • Management of food safety - System or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future.

  • Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building - Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building (including having appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control) to enable good food hygiene.

  • Ken's Chinese Takeaway, a takeaway at Unit 2, Glover Road

  • Sandwiches and Catering Direct, a takeaway at 35 Clarendon Court

  • Nando's Chicken Land at 8-10 Old Market Place

  • Ryfields Bistro at Ryfields Village, Arena Gardens

  • Good Shepherd Family Cafe at New Media Centre, Old Road

Rated three out of five stars:

  • Indo Bites, a restaurant, cafe or canteen at 191-193 Warrington Road

  • Hot Spot, a takeaway at 118 Bridge Street

Rated one out of five stars:

  • Bulls Head, 33 Church Street

  • Georgios, a takeaway at 156-158 Padgate Lane

  • And The Best Kebab, a takeaway at 81 Bridge Street
