AN Ten-year-old boy with cerebral palsy came third place in his category at the official mini London marathon.

Alby Renshaw, from Culcheth, did not let his disability define him when he powered through the finish line I great time on Sunday (April 21).

More than 12,000 participants took place in the TCS Mini London Marathon which was hosted alongside the main marathon in St James’s Park.

And the Culcheth Community Primary pupil was among the competitors, having been invited down to participate by British Athletics.

Alby, who lives with the lifelong condition that affects his balance, coordination and muscle tone, competed in the Under 14 Ambulant Boys race – coming in at an exceptional third place.

Speaking on the event and Alby’s performance, his mother, Emily Renshaw said: “This was a huge achievement and incredible opportunity for Alby.

“He’s been asked to compete in some more events this year and we believe this is just the start for Alby and we are very proud.”

His winning prize landed him a £100 New Balance voucher – which can be used to invest in some brand-new trainers for his exciting upcoming events – as well as medal.

An inspiration to many, the 10-year-old enjoys speaking openly about his condition and celebrates World Cerebral Palsy Day each year at his school with a different event to raise awareness.
