MORE than 400 mourners said goodbye to Lord Hoyle at his funeral on Friday.
A service was held at St Paul's Church in Adlington, near Chorley in Lancashire.
Lord Hoyle died on April 6 at the age of 98, with his funeral attended by his family including son, Lindsay, the House of Commons speaker.
Among those in attendance were Mayor of Warrington Cllr Steve Wright and vice-chairman of Warrington Wolves Steven Broomhead.
Sir Lindsay read the eulogy which paid tribute to Lord Hoyle's life of public service.
While a sombre occasion, the service was an uplifting celebration of his life.
He was MP for Warrington from 1981 to 1997 and sat in the Lords until he retired last year.
He was also chairman of Warrington Wolves for a decade and latterly was president of the club.
Club captain Stefan Ratchford attended the funeral along with all members of the club's board.
Other parliamentarians including Deputy Speaker Nigel Evans and former SNP Westminster leader Ian Blackford were among the mourners.
