A CAR that was stolen during a burglary in the early hours of the morning was found abandoned by police in the middle of the motorway.

Cheshire Police was made aware of a burglary in the Widnes area shortly after 3.15am this morning, Wednesday.

The perpetrators gained access to an address before stealing the keys to a grey Volkswagen, and then the car itself.

This was later found dumped on the M62, close to junction 11 for Birchwood, with lanes closed this morning as police recovered the vehicle.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “Shortly after 3.15am on Wednesday, April 17, police were called to reports of a car and key burglary at an address in Widnes.

“The caller reported that unknown offenders had stolen a grey Volkswagen from outside the property.

“The stolen car was subsequently found abandoned in a live lane on the M62 eastbound.

“Officers conducted a thorough search of the area but were unable to trace the offenders.

“Traffic was temporarily stopped on the motorway between junctions 11 and 12 while the car was recovered.”
