A ‘SHED load’ of rubbish has been dumped in a canal at a popular beauty spot in Warrington.

A resident has slammed the actions of those who have ‘lobbed’ cans and bottles into the water as ‘selfish’ and ‘uncaring’.

The litter can be seen in brown dirty water at Sankey Valley Park just off Wellfield Street in Bewsey.

It was first spotted by a resident as she was walking along the route and spotted a swan nesting close by to the rubbish.

She told the Warrington Guardian: “On entering the bridge, there is absolutely shed loads of cans and bottles lying around in brown dirty looking water.

“Then, when glancing across the same area to the right, the faithful swan sits on her nest and luckily for nature away from the dreaded state of affairs of the careless ones who have lobbed their items into the water while walking over the bridge when there are not bins for away, or indeed they could have taken them home.”

A spokesperson for the council has told the Warrington Guardian that it will be investigating the dumped rubbish.

They said: “We will investigate the litter in this area and seek to remove as much of the reported debris where it is safe to do so.”
