A GROUP of 30 traders from Warrington Market are coming together to climb Snowdon in an attempt to raise money for charity.

Rob Leicester, who owns Warrington Fruit and Veg, came up with the idea for the fundraising event six months ago and went around the market to ask other traders to get involved.

In total 30 people agreed to take part in the nine mile 3,000ft hike up Mount Snowdon on Sunday, April 21.

“It’s so easy for us to say as small business owners ‘come and support us’, but we can’t really do that is we aren’t doing our bit too,” said Rob.

“So we’re trying to make a difference to the next generation.”

The group will be raising money for two different charities – Claire House Hospice and Warrington Youth Zone.

Both charities help support children from around Warrington and the amount raised by the group will be split evenly between them.

The Market has previously fundraised for Claire House Hospice, as one of the traders has a personal connection to it.

Alan Smith, who owns A to G Music, suggested the traders raise money for Claire House Hospice for the second year as his son, Cameron, uses the hospice a few times a year.

"Cameron absolutely adores going there, he has the opportunity to access swimming, music activities and much more," said Alan.

"Claire House are also in the awful position of having to help young people and their families with palliative end of life care, which they do with the utmost respect and professionalism.

"The special needs community we are a part of as a family have had some tragic losses and Claire House have always been a major factor in helping families through the darkest of times."

While the traders see each other every day in the Market, not all of them know each other that well – so climbing up Snowdon together is set to be a real bonding experience.

“I think people wanted to do something different,” said Rob.

“Working in the market we see people each day and say hello but you’re going to get to know them a lot better climbing up Snowdon!”

The group are hoping to raise £1,500 for the charities and have so far raised £352 on their GoFundMe, which you can donate to here.
