A NEW group of travellers have pitched up unauthorised at a Warrington shop – just days after a previous group left.

Six caravans and associated towing vehicles have been reported on the car park of Marks and Spencer in Gemini.

This is according to an unauthorised encampment log for Cheshire and Warrington operated by Cheshire West and Chester Council.

The log by the Cheshire and Warrington Traveller Team states this morning, Monday, that the group arrived yesterday, Sunday.

A council officer is to contact the landowner of the privately-owned site off Europa Boulevard.

It comes after eight caravans and towing vehicles set up camp on the same M&S car park last Sunday, before leaving early last week.

This latest unauthorised encampment is the latest of many in the town recently.

Six caravans moved onto land opposite St Phillip Westbrook CofE Primary School at the Westbrook Centre, near Asda supermarket on Thursday before being served with a section 60C notice to leave.

Three caravans and towing vehicles also pitched up on the overspill car park at Orford Neighbourhood Hub on Jubilee Way on Thursday.

Around 10 caravans and towing vehicles pitched up on the car park of Junction Nine Retail Park on Wednesday afternoon, but they have since left.

The unauthorised encampment was towards the northern end of the Winwick Road site, on land recently converted to car parking outside recently finished new shop units.

Cheshire Police was also called to Morrisons off Wilderspool Causeway on Tuesday afternoon after travellers arrived.
