MORE applications have been lodged to Warrington Borough Council to convert existing properties into HMOs.

Warrington has seen a spate of bids over recent months to change homes into houses of multiple occupation.

Now, two more schemes in Bewsey are due to be ruled on by the council’s planning department.

The first is the conversion of an existing dwelling at number 105 Bewsey Road into a nine-bedroom HMO by applicant A Sezer IR Ltd.

Another is an application for a lawful development certificate for a change of use from a dwelling into a five-bedroom HMO at number eight Worsley Street by applicant Parata Properties.

Planning documents for the latter state: “The existing property was C3 use class, and we intend to convert it into a C4 use class property and use it as a HMO.

“The property will house five bedrooms and will be occupied by five unrelated individuals.”

One neighbour has shared her objection with the Warrington Guardian, describing the situation as a ‘planning nightmare’, and having read about a similar ‘fiasco’ HMO bid on Norris Street in Orford.

They wrote: “I vehemently OBJECT to this planning application. We are a small street with 15 houses and a community of helpful neighbours, many of whom have lived here for more than 20 years.

“A five-bedroom HMO is totally unacceptable in such a small terraced, dead-end street.

“We have limited parking, and parking issues with one space per house, and we already have non-residents parking in the street from other HMOs in the area.

“It has become dangerous, with residents and delivery vans trying to manoeuvre out of the street often having to reverse out onto Folly Lane, and there has already been one serious accident.

“I thought the Government was trying to make more family housing available. Using a two-bed house as a five-bed HMO is not only ludicrous, but it takes another property away from a potential family.

“I believe an HMO would be detrimental environmentally, with five occupants and increased waste generated.

“Please seriously consider this objection – it will detrimentally affect the lives of everyone living in this street.”

The plans for each separate HMO are with the council and will be decided upon in due course.
