CHANGES have been proposed to the road network outside a primary school.

Warrington Borough Council has announced its intention to create a ‘school street’ outside St Philip Westbrook CofE Primary School.

This is part of ongoing efforts to improve safety for pupils, the local authority says.

A traffic order has been drawn up to introduce to ban vehicles from using certain stretches of road at Westbrook Centre during certain hours in term time.

This will be from Monday to Friday between 8.30am and 8.55am, as well as from 2:55pm to 3:30pm, at term time only.

It covers Westbrook Centre east to west section, from its junction with Westbrook Crescent for approximately 120 metres in an easterly direction, and then a further 120 metres north east of its junction with Westbrook Crescent to its junction with Westbrook Centre north to south section.

The council has confirmed why it is seeking the changes in a statement of reasons.

This states: “As part of the ongoing focus on improving safety within the immediate vicinity of St Philip Westbrook CofE Primary School, it is deemed necessary in conjunction with the school to introduce a school street.

“The measures are to remove through traffic past the school during the school drop off and pick up times.”
