A DRUNK has been jailed for truly disgusting and disgraceful actions towards a female police officer.

Nabil Ahmed was residing in Holiday Inn in Woolston during a period of time when the venue was enduring an outbreak of scabies.

But despite this, the 23-year-old went to Warrington town centre, got drunk, damaged a police van and spat in the policewoman’s mouth.

He was subsequently charged with assault by beating of an emergency worker, criminal damage and being drunk and disorderly.

He denied all charges, pleading not guilty, but was convicted on all counts following a trial and returned to Warrington Magistrates’ Court recently to be sentenced.

Joseph Kindley, prosecuting on behalf of the Crown Prosecution Service, informed the court how all of the offences were committed on September 9 last year.

Officers approached him in response to his drunk and disorderly behaviour on Bridge Street, where he assaulted a police woman.

He did so by spitting in her mouth, with the court hearing of the scabies outbreak in Holiday Inn Woolston at the time of him residing there.

It was referenced that his vile actions posed a serious risk of contagion.

Ahmed, who appeared in court without legal representation, was then placed into the holding cell of a police van, which he then damaged.

Before sentencing, magistrates commented that the offence of assault was aggravated due to it being committed against an emergency worker during her job and public duty.

They also stated that the offences did cross the custody threshold and that the only appropriate punishment was a sentence of immediate imprisonment.

Ahmed, whose new address was given as Elm Street in Colne, was sentenced to 26 weeks in prison.

He was also ordered to pay £200 in compensation to the officer, costs to the Crown Prosecution Service of £200 and a statutory victim surcharge of £154.
